Need a Certified or a Non-certified Building?

When purchasing a garage, carport, RV shelter, or commercial steel building from Eversafe Buildings you need to determine whether you need it to be either certified or not.  This page will help you understand the differences between the two. If you have any questions which are not answered by this page please contact our offices at 1-800-374-7106 and one of our building specialists will help you.

What is a Certified Building?

A certified building is one that is engineered to meet specific snow and/or wind loads. Since many areas in the northeast require that a building meets a specific snow load, and many areas along the coast require a specific wind load, if you live in any of these areas you should be aware of your local building code requirements and purchase a building that meets those specifications.

Reasons for certification:

  • Building code requirements
  • High snow loads
  • High wind loads

Keep in mind that a certified building does cost more than a non-certified building since it requires more structural integrity, but because of this it provides an overall safer and stronger building.

What is a Non-Certified Building?

A non-certified building is a structure you can build in areas where there is no requirement to meet certain building codes such as snow loads and wind loads.

Since certification requirements can vary from city to city and county to county, it’s your responsibility to know the requirements and to purchase a structure accordingly. Your local building department will have the information you need to determine whether or not you require a certified building.

Should I Purchase a Certified Building Even If My County Does Not Require It?

While you may not require a certified building according to your local building department, purchasing a certified building over a non-certified building from Eversafe Buildings may be a smart investment since it does provide better protection from all forms of extreme weather such as high winds and heavy snow. Certified building do cost more than non-certified buildings but isn’t that extra peace of mind worth the higher price?
